I received a Tan Books catalogue in my mail today, and was pleased and surprised to find an ad for The Latin Mass Explained, by Msgr. George Moorman. A timely and useful book, to be sure.
The foreword was written by Monsignor R. Michael Schmitz, Vicar General and U.S. Provincial Superior of the Institute of Christ the King, Sovereign Priest.
But what was the most pleasant surprise was to see the photo at left gracing the front cover– Pontifical Solemn High Mass at St. Francis de Sales Oratory right here in St. Louis!
In many ways, St. Louis has been at the leading edge of the advance of the traditional Mass that has occurred in the past couple of years. St. Francis de Sales is the largest traditional Latin Mass “parish” in the country, and likely in the world. The Institute is widely known for the beauty of its liturgical celebrations and Salesian spirituality. And our good Archbishop’s well-deserved reputation for faithfulness and courage speaks for itself. It is well to be grateful.
I think I’ll check out the book.
