Report Reveals Komen Gave Over $700 Thousand to Planned Parenthood in One Year

STOPP calls for end to Komen funding

By Michael Baggot

STAFFORD, VA, April 10, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) – In light of the continuing controversy over whether or not Catholics should support the Susan B. Komen for the Cure breast cancer organization, STOPP, a project of the American Life League dedicated to shutting down Planned Parenthood, released a report Wednesday detailing the $711,485 in funding various Komen affiliates contributed to PP branches across the nation from April 2005-April 2006.

The STOPP report pinpoints 21 different Komen affiliates that have given significant sums of money to 26 different PP facilities.

The report also suggests that Komen’s support for the abortion and contraceptive behemoth PP “does not make sense, since not only is there a direct connection between abortion and breast cancer, but scientific studies show that there is a direct connection between chemical contraception and breast cancer as well.”

“The fact that Komen Affiliates give money to PP contradicts Komen’s claim that it works to end breast cancer,” adds the report.

STOPP is encouraging donors to end Komen support “until this organization repents and stops giving money to Planned Parenthood, an organization that kills babies, exploits women, corrupts youth and increases the likelihood of breast cancer by promoting contraception and abortion.”

As LifeSiteNews.com reported in March, Komen has dismissed outright the scientifically supported connection between breast cancer and abortion (see http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2008/mar/08033108.html)

Concerning the connection between breast cancer and the oral contraceptive pill, an important 1989 study “found that nulliparous women (i.e. women who have not had children) who took OCPs had a significantly higher rate of breast cell division than nulliparous women who did not take them. This was especially important because it is known that in general, cells that divide more rapidly are more vulnerable to carcinogens (i.e. cancer producing agents) and thus more likely to become cancerous,” stated the Polycarp Research Institute.

Subsequent studies have confirmed the results of the 1989 research (seehttp://www.polycarp.org/overviewbreastcanceroralcontraceptiv…).

After discouraging Komen funding in February, the Little Rock Diocese in March issued an apology and retraction of their initial position.  Following Little Rock’s policy reversal, however, both the St. Louis and Lafayette dioceses reaffirmed their opposition to Komen support.

Both St. Louis and Lafayette encouraged readers to support local hospitals engaged in breast cancer research and treatment, rather than Komen.

O Jesus meek and humble of heart, Hear me.
From the desire of being esteemed, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being loved, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being extolled, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being honored, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being praised, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being preferred to others, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being consulted, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being approved, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being humiliated, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being despised, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of suffering rebukes, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being calumniated, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being forgotten, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being ridiculed, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being wronged, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being suspected, Deliver me, Jesus.
That others may be loved more than I,
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be esteemed more than I,
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That in the opinion of the world, others may increase, and I may decrease,
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be chosen and I set aside,
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be praised and I unnoticed,
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be preferred to me in everything,
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may become holier than I, provided that I become as holy as I should,
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.

Not Satisfied with Leading St. Louis and Springfield Catholics Astray, Bozek Takes Medicine Show to Kansas City

I wonder if Wolftracker will have the welcome mat out for the excommunicated advocate for anything other than the Catholic faith.

Thank you to the reader who sent along the following notice:

LAY SYNOD IN KANSAS

SPECIAL EVENT: FATHER MAREK BOZEK, 4/19/08

April 9, 2008 11:05 am

I (SLC: not the reader who sent me this) am sponsoring a talk and Q&A with Father Marek B. Bozek, pastor of St. Stanislaus Catholic Parish in St. Louis on Saturday April 19, 2008 from 12:30-2:30 p.m. at the K.C. Public Library, Ruiz Branch, Ruiz Meeting Room, 2017 West Pennway, in Kansas City, MO.

Father Bozek is involved in a controversial dispute with the Archdiocese of Saint Louis over the property and administration of St. Stanislaus Parish. He was excommunicated by Archbishop Burke in December 2005 and recently was threatened with “laicization” for his support and participation in the ordination ceremony of two Catholic women priests. The parish he pastors is of Polish heritage and today is proudly inclusive, welcoming all at the Eucharistic table, with no regard to ethnicity, race, age, gender, marital status, sexual orientation or any other extraneous factor. The membership at St. Stanislaus has more than doubled in the last two years. The dream-parish envisioned by Vatican II is clearly possible!

_________________

Caveat emptor— there are a number of inaccuracies in the above post:

1. Bozek is not pastor– Archbishop Burke found that he usurped this position unlawfully.

2. There is no Catholic parish of St. Stanislaus in St. Louis– it has been suppressed.

3. The “dispute” about the proper administration of St. Stanislaus is long over– because of the contumacy of the priest and Board, the parish is suppressed, and is no longer Catholic in any sense of the word.

4. He was not excommunicated by Archbishop Burke– he incurred it automatically, and this fact was declared by His Grace.

5. Whether a person presenting themselves to receive Communion is living in a state of mortal sin is not an extraneous factor.

6. The claim that the membership of St. Stanislaus has doubled since it ceased being Catholic is highly dubious. If the last video news report of Channel 4, or the statements of Roger Krasnicki are at all indicative, then for this to be true the previous membership must have been approximately 5 people.

7. The “dream-parish of Vatican II” would look nothing like St. Stanislaus– the “dream-parish of people who ‘feel’ that Vatican II changed any Church teaching” would look A LOT like St. Stan’s. All that remains is for them to rip out the statues, stained glass windows and high altar and put in a coffee table and swimming pool, surrounded by leotard-clad granola-eaters swaying with bowls of incense. Then it would be perfect.

Other than those few items, the notice is entirely correct. Enjoy him, Kansas City! We will be glad to be rid of him for a time, however short.

Pope to Bless Cornerstone of New Chapel for Thomas Aquinas College

As reported elsewhere, the program for the Pope’s visit, including the Masses and other functions, is now available as a pdf file.

One nice item of which I was unaware is that at the Papal Mass in D.C., the Holy Father will bless the cornerstone of Thomas Aquinas College’s new chapel, designed by one of the foremost architects in the restoration of Catholic tradition, Duncan Stroik— Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity Chapel.

See, that’s building your house on the Rock.

Catholic Church Conservation is the place to go for the strong of stomach who wish to peruse the worst-of-the-worst in liturgical abuse. This one is particularly appalling.

“YOU ARE THE ONES WHO ARE HAPPY; YOU WHO REMAIN WITHIN THE CHURCH BY YOUR FAITH, WHO HOLD FIRMLY TO THE FOUNDATIONS OF THE FAITH WHICH HAS COME DOWN TO YOU FROM APOSTOLIC TRADITION. AND IF AN EXECRABLE JEALOUSY HAS TRIED TO SHAKE IT ON A NUMBER OF OCCASIONS, IT HAS NOT SUCCEEDED. THEY ARE THE ONES WHO HAVE BROKEN AWAY FROM IT IN THE PRESENT CRISIS. NO ONE, EVER, WILL PREVAIL AGAINST YOUR FAITH, BELOVED BROTHERS. AND WE BELIEVE THAT GOD WILL GIVE US OUR CHURCHES BACK SOME DAY.”
