Timman,Two men were killed by the gunman. If you're saying that only one death is worth reporting, that in itself speaks volumes. And what it says is simply sad. It will be good to hear the killer's motives for killing both of his victims, but it sounds like you already know his motives. Please, do tell.
Dear Anonymous, no need to be snide. I think you probably are well aware that I am certainly not saying that only one death is worth reporting, but rather, consistent with the focus of this blog, the martyrdom of a pro-life activist is fit subject for a post.As for the killer's motives, one cannot get inside the head of someone, but there is this published media report:"33-year-old Harland James Drake has been charged with first-degree premeditated murder of pro-life veteran Jim Pouillon this morning as he carried a pro-life sign in front of a local high school, reports local news station WILX-TV.Prosecutors said Drake told them he targeted Pouillon because of his pro-life activities."I guess have to wonder what makes you so fascinated by this blog that makes you snipe as you do. I am just as befuddled in my attempts to ascertain the point you are trying to make by your comment.
YES!!!! Maximilian Kolbe is one of the saints I most admire! "They will expel you from the synagogues; in fact, the hour is coming when everyone who kills you will think he is offering worship to God."Wouldn't you think that Kolbe's case was different since the Nazis were just 'following orders'? I mean I guess it may sort of be the principle that counts though ;)~G.T.
I hope to identify the first martyr represented above as none other than St. Lawrence who quipped while roasting, "Turn me over, I'm done on this side". The remark of course is entirely consistent with Christ's command that we "turn the other cheek".Catholic writer and wit Evelyn Waugh passes on the other story about St. Lawrence which goes like this. A greedy simonious king conquered some part of Northern France where St. Lawrence served the people. He brought St. Lawrence before his throne and commanded Lawrence, "Bring to me all the treasures of the Church." In rebuke St. Lawrence gathered all the simple of mind, the cripples and the sick. He herded them gently in front of the king and the King raged "I told you to bring me the treasures of the Church." Lawrence replied, "THESE ARE THE TREASURES OF THE CHURCH". And for this he was roasted alive. And thus, Timman points out that St. Lawrence is the perfect Saint for those who wish to protect the idiots, and sick and twisted of limb and mind. Because that is exactly the class of humans abortin is meant to murder. Am I right Mr. Tim?St. Guy, soldier and Martyr(Feast Day November 25th) (not really).
Thank you, St. Guy, for the fantastic story of St. Lawrence. This is the kind of stuff that can make this website so good!
