From the St. Louis Review:

Planning to attend the Father John Corapi conference this weekend? Here’s what you need to know before heading out:

Details: The conference will be held Saturday, May 1, at the Chaifetz Arena, #1 Compton Ave. on the campus of St. Louis University in Midtown St. Louis. Doors open at 8 a.m.; Father Corapi’s first talk will begin at 9 a.m. Archbishop Robert J. Carlson will celebrate a closing Mass at 4:30 p.m.

Traffic/Getting There: Parking will be available in eight locations surrounding the arena. Visit http://www.archstl.org/archstl/page/be-not-afraid-corapi-conference for a map. Those attending are asked to allow extra time for traffic and are encouraged to carpool.

There also is a procedure for dropping off individuals at the arena. See http://www.archstl.org/files/field-file/Drop-Off-Memo.pdf for more information.

Several streets in the vicinity of the arena will be blocked that day because of another event taking place. Visit http://www.archstl.org for up-to-date information.

Concessions: Food and drink at concession stands, as well as box lunches, will be available for purchase.

Tickets: Ticket prices range from $15-$35. Tickets may be purchased the day of the event. All patrons 2 years and older require a ticket.

Camera Policy: Small personal cameras are permitted. Audio/video recording is not allowed.

Feast of Saint Catherine of Siena

Today is the feast day of Saint Catherine of Siena, stigmatist, Doctor of the Church, glory of the Dominicans, and co-patroness of Italy.

The image at left is a detail from a fourteenth century fresco by Andrea Vanni. Methodist Jim, a sometime reader of this blog, very thoughtfully gave Sharon and me an icon with this image after a trip to Siena. I have to check, but I believe that the protestant origin doesn’t prevent it from being blessed.

Just kidding! No hate mail, please.

May Saint Catherine, the sage counselor of another Pope in temporal distress, intercede for our beloved Holy Father today.

Saint Catherine, pray for us!

Cardinal Mayer, R.I.P.

“YOU ARE THE ONES WHO ARE HAPPY; YOU WHO REMAIN WITHIN THE CHURCH BY YOUR FAITH, WHO HOLD FIRMLY TO THE FOUNDATIONS OF THE FAITH WHICH HAS COME DOWN TO YOU FROM APOSTOLIC TRADITION. AND IF AN EXECRABLE JEALOUSY HAS TRIED TO SHAKE IT ON A NUMBER OF OCCASIONS, IT HAS NOT SUCCEEDED. THEY ARE THE ONES WHO HAVE BROKEN AWAY FROM IT IN THE PRESENT CRISIS. NO ONE, EVER, WILL PREVAIL AGAINST YOUR FAITH, BELOVED BROTHERS. AND WE BELIEVE THAT GOD WILL GIVE US OUR CHURCHES BACK SOME DAY.”
