The Holy See Press Office announced today that the long-rumored, long-awaited instruction document on the implementation of the great motu proprio Summorum Pontificum will be released this Friday, May 13, at noon Rome time.  The document will be called Universae Ecclesiae, and, notably, will be published also in the May 14 edition of L’Osservatore Romano.  You may recall that after Summorum Pontificum was published it took forever and a day to hit the Vatican’s official newspaper.

May 13– the nod to Fatima is palpable.  There has been much talk on Catholic blogs about whether the instruction letter was something to long for or something to dread.  There were rumors that an intermediate draft was very restrictive, heavily influenced by the ancient Mass’ enemies.  Then there were further rumors that an outcry about this caused the final draft to be fixed, and that it fully supports a generous reading of the motu proprio.  Friday we will all find out.  Fatima, hmm.  We need to entrust this, as all things, to prayer.

Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us!
